Schindlers Shuffles - The beginning
Back in the year 2000 Geoff Scott of Poole Runners, who had been running for 19 years and not knowing how much longer his running may last thought it may be a good idea to organize some country walks. He thought they should take place monthly on a Saturday morning, be about 6-8 miles long and preferably start and finish at a public house.
At the time the walks started Pete Couch, our club chairman was calling Geoff "schindler" after the film Schindlers List because he produced the club running "list" - and so the schindlers shuffles were born.
There were 20 walkers on the first ever shuffle on 1st July 2000 from the Castle Inn at Lulworth Cove. There have been 139 walks to date. In the early days 20-30 shufflers used to turn up, but the popularity of the walks grew over the years and the record is now 76 walkers.
Geoff awards special Schindlers Shuffle badges to walkers after they have completed six walks.
Geoff states that as long as his legs keep going the shuffles will continue, hopefully for many years to come.
