Entries are now open for the Poole Festival of running 2012
The Poole Hospital Charity fundraises for all the wards and departments at Poole Hospital ranging from the Emergency Department and Children’s Unit to Elderly Care. Fundraising monies are used to purchase equipment and improve facilities to enhance patient care and comfort.
Sponsorship monies raised by this year’s Poole Festival of Running will go towards equipping our Maternity Unit which houses our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Maternity Unit is the centre for all high risk care in East Dorset. The unit treats women and babies with complications as well as women with normal pregnancies and births. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has 20 cots, 4 of which are for intensive care. NICU services the maternity units at both Poole and Bournemouth Hospital. Between the two hospitals approximately 4,500 babies are born each year of which NICU admits approximately 10%. The babies that are admitted are either pre-term (born early) or have other medical problems. It costs around £1,200 per day for each baby receiving intensive care.
The Poole Hospital Charity monies will be used to buy items of new equipment for the unit to make sure that we can provide the very best in modern Maternity and Neonatal care.
