We are not just about running, though that is our primary activity. We are also a club and invite all new members to join in our varied social activities, which range from an informal pint in the bar to a formal dinner/dance.
After a Wednesday nights run, we encourage all runners to have a drink with us in the sports centre bar at Broadstone. You will gain a great insight into what the club is about as well as pick up tips on how to achieve your aims.
When we attend a running event, you'll always find a few of us wanting to talk war stories afterwards over a drink and a meal, we sometimes put on a BBQ if there are enough of us.
When we travel away for a few days, we may meet up in a local restaraunt or bar before returning to our camp site (or hotel for the less adventurous).
The Wayfarers relays includes a BBQ, games for the kids and a Disco and is usually well attended by other local running clubs.
We organise a Welsh Training weekend, where we spend the days running or walking through fantastic Welsh scenery before, again, having a few refreshments in our hostelry, which includes the annual Poole Runners Pool championship.
Quiz nights are in abundance during the year and at christmas we traditionally have a mulled wine evening on the Wednesday before Christmas. This is the sacred event for London Marathon rejects as three of us will secure places in the worlds best race.
The annual formal dinner/dance night is the culmanation of our year where we present several awards for the efforts over the year, these include winners of the various age categories but also "thank you" gifts for those who have helped with the running of the club over the year. The coveted "Poole Runner of the Year" award is presented, the winner having been voted for by all members of the club.
Looking to the future, we are appointing a Social Secretary, who will be responsible for increasing the social aspects of the club and we can expect greyhound racing and beach BBQ's. Watch this space.
