What we do - Training

Members of the club get the opportunity to have a go at the full range of athletic events.  We try to vary the sessions so that they are interesting, and also structure them so that athletes training is aimed at the competitions coming up or the athlete’s personal goals.

Training sessions over the week cover most disciplines, including:
            High Jump
            Long Jump
            Pole Vault
            Hammer
            Discus
            Shotput
            Javelin
            Sprinting
            Hurdling
            Middle Distance
            Long Distance
            Steeplechase
            Relays
            Road Running
            Cross Country

On Thursdays we train at Ashdown track. From 6pm to 7pm the field events (jumping and throwing) and hurdling sessions take place. From 7pm to 8pm we concentrate on sprint, middle, and distance running.

On Saturdays and Tuesdays, the venue moves to Lockyers School in Corfe Mullen.

The Saturday session runs from 10.00 to 11.45 and again covers a range of running, jumping, and throwing events but aimed more at the beginner or developing athlete. The more experienced juniors may also attend to assist with some of the coaching or to train themselves.

The Tuesday session is for either distance running or for sprinting. In the summer and good weather we meet at Lockyers but mainly train on Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground. In the winter the school hall is used for conditioning training and the distance runners move to road running in the Corfe Mullen and Broadstone areas.
