What we do - Compititions
During the course of the year there are many competitions that a junior can enter as one of our team, and the coaches or team managers will try to make sure that athletes get to do the competitions and events that they want to wherever possible.
We aim to have a good team spirit and ethos, helping each other in training and at competition. This is very important to us in the club, and we know that it helps the athletes in their performances.
In the summer our main team event is the National Young Athletes League (Ages Under 13 through to Under 20) which have all the track running, jumping, and throwing events and provide some very good competition for our athletes.
We also have a team in the Wessex Young Athletes League (Ages Under 11 through to Under 17) which also have the full range of track and field events. We have competed successfully here and many of our juniors enjoy this as a way of trying out competition, or having a go at a different event.
In addition to this we have teams in the South West Athletics League (Ages under 13 through to Seniors), and Southern Mens League and Southern Womens League (Ages Under 20 to seniors). There are also open athletic meetings (where you enter as an individual), and school and county events where you compete to get into the county team and represent your county at regional and national events.
The summer also sees the Time Trials organised by Poole Runners as an open event, with a 1k run for the under 15’s and a 5k run for those aged 15 or over. These are very popular, and the details are published on the events page.
In the winter there is Sportshall, which is the indoor version of athletics, which again has regional and national competitions. There are also a number of cross-country leagues and events, including the Hampshire League, and national finals for the county team. For the 15 and overs, there is a Boscombe 5k series which Poole Runners organise as an open event.
There are also many opportunities where we will suggest an athlete enters an open competition individually, or will be selected for the county team.
Throughout the year there are various road races that we may suggest an athlete competes in.
