Rhayader 20 + 5 mile

Twenty Three Club Members travelled to the mid Welsh town of Rhayader to compete in either the 20 mile ‘Round the Lakes ‘ race or the supporting  five mile event.
 

 The 20 mile is a particularly tough route with a six mile steep assent in the first eight miles to a summit of speculator scenery.  Despite the forecast of inclement weather the race was held in almost ideal conditions with just hint of rain just after the start which soon dissipated.

After breakfast in the Castle Inn (20 miles short of the start) we travelled to Rhayader and drove round the course. Our two ‘Race Virgins’ Vici Blackburn and Lucy Tidbury were strangely silent as we ascended the hill

Bob and Marion Frampton were attending the race after a sixteen year absence; it was Bob’s present to Marion for her 50^th birthday! Also present was past Club treasurer Don Doe. It was  Don initiated our Club going to Rhayader over twenty years ago.

As usual our Club came away with a selection of prizes.

Post race activies concluded with Dave Ozanne just beating Kate Towner in the pool knock-out competition, it went down to a black ball only game.
