Club Handicap Results

The second post Boscombe Series 5k handicap race took place at Longham Lakes last Friday night.

Thirty Five Club members ran, and it was pleasing to see some new faces. The course this year was twice clockwise round the lakes, a reversal of last year’s event. It has to be said that this confused at least one senior member who claimed he had spent the day visualising his race and his race preparation had now been wasted! 

The weather conditions were good (no midges this year) all went well, runners set off at their pre-allocated start times and were well spread out around the lake perimeter. There was one exception when one Club member decided his start time was the time to get ready and change his kit and therefore began his race around forty seconds late. As this delay has not been allowed for in the finishing positions or times the person concerned is well down the finishing list.

On the second lap runners came together and around 70% of the field finished within the space of a little over a minute.

The handicap was mostly based on runner’s best Boscombe 5k time. As a generalisation the Handicap course (A GPS measured 5k) would seem to be slightly slower

First overall was Tony Harris and first Female was Hannah Cook.  Congratulations to both.

After the race competitors and marshals (46 in total) went to the Bridge House for a Meal. The general opinion was that this was good value at just £5 per head and many were still at the bar late in the evening.

The next Club Handicap will be held after the Upton House Summer Series. The venue will be off road and of the same length as that at Upton. It is likely to be Avon Country Park but other venues are being considered.
